MODEL HISTORY

Thirty years after unveiling the Boxster concept, Porsche introduced the most powerful iteration of its iconic mid-engined roadster: the 718 Spyder RS. For the first time, the high-revving, naturally aspirated engine from the 911 GT3 found its way into an open-topped, mid-engined sports car—marking a significant milestone in the brand’s engineering evolution.

At the heart of the Spyder RS lies a 4.0-litre flat-six engine, renowned for its razor-sharp throttle response and ability to rev beyond 9,000 rpm. Unlike turbocharged alternatives, this naturally aspirated unit delivers power in a linear, almost visceral manner, accompanied by an intake sound that dominates the cabin. The innovative induction system, positioned directly behind the occupants’ heads, creates an intensely immersive driving experience—one that connects driver and machine in a way few modern cars can replicate.

Launched to an eager press and captivated audience, the Spyder RS was immediately hailed as one of the most capable and well-rounded cars Porsche has ever produced. With its finely tuned suspension geometry, purposeful aerodynamic design, and a breathtaking induction system, the car delivers an experience as visceral as it is precise. It has already begun to cement its status as a modern legend.

EXTERIOR

Finished in a dazzling shade of Metallic GT Silver this 718 Spyder RS represents the ultimate evolution of the Boxster lineage. Specified with the Weissach Package, this example benefits from extensive weight-saving measures with larger front grilles, the instantly recognisable carbon fibre bonnet, a unique rear ‘bridge’ brake light integrated into the twin humps and a carbon-fibre-topped ducktail — each element contributing to a finely judged balance of performance and visual drama.

The overall condition of the car is excellent, the original factory paint still retains a consistent deep gloss finish across the whole car.

INTERIOR

Porsche has removed most of the standard Boxster’s sound insulation and fitted a raft of lightweight elements including the intricate carbon fibre roof and carbon fibre bucket seats. The driving position is first class thanks to the perfectly supportive seats and adjustable steering column – with the waistline of the bodywork relatively high you certainly feel snug and secure with the top down.

Alcantara generously covers the cabin space throughout with the lower dash, door cards, seat inserts, crested arm rest, steering wheel and gear surround double silver stitched with Porsche’s finest black leather to the top of the dashboard; again treated to a silver thread either side of the vents. Further spec add ins include leather covering the steering wheel column and inner door sills alongside race tex sun visors that all add to this huge spec and well thought out optioned example. With the presence of mod-cons such as front-lift, PCM, BOSE Surround and reversing camera, alongside a switchable exhaust, the car can be used daily, long distance or comfortably to and from track.

The soft top comprises two detachable components: a sun shield and a weather protector. The lightweight single-layer Spyder soft top can be utilized with just the sun shield, providing shade for the driver and passenger while leaving the passenger compartment open to the sides and rear; enhancing the open-air experience.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

Like it’s stable mate 4RS, the Spyder RS has intakes just behind the doors which feed a big central airbox and throttle bodies for each cylinder. You can hear the throttle position change as you roll into the pedal; a quite surreal analogue experience that completely aligns with GT boss Andreas Preuninger’s target of an ‘extremely compelling and unfiltered driving experience’.

Compared to the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, spring and damper rates have been reduced to achieve a more road biased, convertible-style set-up.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The unmarked lightweight 20-inch wheels are complimented by Michelin’s Pilot Sport Cup 2’s performance tyres.

Stuttgart’s incredible PCCB system reveals large 6-pot Black calipers, with 4-Pot on the rear, clamping huge drilled ceramic discs to provide plenty of stopping power whether on road or track.

With a GT3 RS front axle, helper springs and adjustable toe, camber and anti-roll bar settings this Cayman can be dialled in to suit the driver’s preferences.

HISTORY FILE

Delivered new to Porsche Centre South London in 2024, this GT Silver Spyder RS sits with almost all options ticked to the tune of £30k including that all important front axle lift system.
