MODEL HISTORY
Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1999, the 911 GT3 assumed the role previously held by the Carrera RS. Named after the competition category in which Porsche raced, it was developed as a road-legal expression of the company’s motorsport programme and provided the basis for a succession of GT3 Cup, R and RSR racing cars.
The second-generation 996 GT3 arrived in 2003 and represented far more than a mid-life facelift. Porsche extensively reworked the 3.6-litre naturally aspirated flat-six, reducing its internal masses and introducing continuously variable VarioCam adjustment. Power increased from 360 PS to 381 PS, with 385Nm of torque delivered through a six-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels.
Revised front and rear bodywork, new headlights, ten-spoke wheels and a redesigned fixed rear wing distinguished the Mk2 visually, while further development of the chassis and braking system sharpened the engineering beneath it. The result was a 190mph GT3 capable of reaching 62mph in 4.5 seconds, yet its defining qualities remained pleasingly simple: natural aspiration, rear-wheel drive and an unusually direct connection between Porsche’s competition cars and the road.

EXTERIOR
Arctic Silver Metallic brings a welcome restraint to the Mk2 996 GT3. Its compact proportions and clean, flowing shape feel refreshingly measured beside more recent performance cars, with the deeper front apron, sculpted side skirts and fixed rear wing giving the car purpose without overwhelming the underlying 911 form.
The bodywork presents very well overall, with straight, clean panels and an even Arctic Silver paint finish throughout. Only minor age-related marks are evident, while the new front lip gives the lower edge of the nose a crisp, tidy appearance.
INTERIOR
The Mk2 cabin introduces a little more everyday usability without losing the GT3’s driver-led character. Adjustable black leather sports seats provide generous support, while the three-spoke steering wheel, five-dial instrument cluster and six-speed gear lever keep the important controls pleasingly simple. The Arctic Silver centre console breaks up the otherwise dark interior and creates a subtle link with the exterior.
Condition is very good throughout, with the leather-trimmed dashboard, door panels, carpets and GT3-branded rear compartment all appearing well cared for. The seat leather displays light creasing, with modest wear to the driver’s outer bolster and steering-wheel rim consistent with the car’s age and use.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Developed from Porsche’s motorsport engine architecture, the 3.6-litre naturally aspirated ‘Mezger’ flat-six is central to the GT3’s enduring reputation. Producing 376bhp at 7,400rpm and revving to 8,200rpm, it delivers its performance progressively, with sharp throttle response and an increasingly purposeful character as the revs rise.
A six-speed manual gearbox sends power to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential. Free from traction and stability control, the drivetrain retains the direct, mechanical involvement for which the early GT3 has become so highly regarded.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The 18-inch ten-spoke GT3 wheels retain their factory-style silver finish and GT3 centre caps, their slender design leaving the substantial braking hardware clearly visible.
A matching set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres is fitted, with good tread remaining across all four corners. Red Porsche brake callipers and cross-drilled steel discs complete a purposeful setup developed for the sustained demands of road and track use.
HISTORY FILE
First registered in 2004, this Arctic Silver GT3 has covered just over 40k miles in more than two decades, a reflection of its relatively modest use throughout its life. Presenting in its original colour combination and desirable Comfort specification, it remains a particularly appealing example of Porsche’s second-generation 996 GT3.
Its maintenance history is equally reassuring, with eight recorded service stamps from a combination of Porsche main dealers and respected marque specialists. Initially maintained by OPC Bournemouth and Guildford, the car has been entrusted to Specialists since 2015, most recently receiving a major service in October 2024 at 40,946 miles, including replacement spark plugs.
Included with the car is an extensive file of service invoices/MOTs, stamped original service book, leather Porsche wallet and 2 sets of keys.
