Throughout recent Porsche 911 history the GT2 has been the fastest, most focused and most expensive version of the iconic car.
FIrst launched by Porsche in 1993, as a high performance version of the 993-generation 911 Turbo. The GT2 model, nicknamed ‘the Widowmaker’, was built in order to meet homologation requirements for motorsports, and the designation soon achieved cult status.
Porsche introduced the 996 version in 2000 with 483 bhp and like its predecessor it was driven by its rear wheels only, there was no four wheel drive, stability control or traction control and no rear seats resulting in a much lighter machine compared to its 911 Turbo cousin. At the back, the GT2 has a larger fixed wing with extra air intakes tucked in to the supports to feed the turbochargers. Carbon trim adorns the interior joined by just 2 hard backed sports seats.
The 483bhp engine is derived directly from the company’s Le Mans winning 911 GT1 with a twin turbo 3.6 litre configuration featuring magnesium alloy and titanium in abundance. The advanced 6 speed gearbox derives from the GT2 race cars which have over 1 million miles of racing to their credit, thus 0 – 60 is comes up in just 4 seconds and 0 – 100 in 8.5.
Just 129 examples were sold in the UK.

GT2 is a nomenclature synonymous with Porsche extravagance and this example looks every bit the part finished in a beautiful coat of Arctic Silver. Markedly different from the Turbo model, the extended front bumper, staggered rear wing and gaping intakes point to both an aerodynamic and performance advantage, although its design remains somewhat more subtle than it’s RS stablemate. The front end presents in wonderful order, free of marks or chips. Arrow straight on both flanks, with both of the rear arches again pleasingly mark-free, this GT2 is in first class condition with rubbers, plastics and surrounds remaining soft and supple with no discolouration or age related wear.
Upon entry you are met immediately by the large carbon fibre GT2 sills as you hunker down into the sport bucket seats. There are a few considered styling additions with a generous array of aluminium on show; a line runs through the middle of the dash from driver to passenger, whilst both the air vents and GT2 handbrake carry the theme further. The leather remains in terrific condition with only very minor creases in keeping with the cars age and use, whilst sills, carpets and gearbox tunnel remain mark and stain free. There is a CD/Radio present should you wish to swap the soundtrack from whistling turbos and boost. Finally, in keeping with limited variants of years gone by, the GT2 icon sits proudly imprinted in the carpet behind the front seats.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 462bhp engine is derived directly from the company’s Le Mans winning 911 GT1 and the shattering performance feels somewhat quicker than more modern machinery, thanks largely to the engines turbo characteristics. Rather more in keeping with Turbo’s of the past, there is a short delay before the car boosts forward on a huge wave of torque and with almost 500 lb/ft, the GT2 was considered a true supercar in terms of performance. That still feels the case to this day; totally encompassing and capturing an intensity that cannot be mimicked by Variable turbine geometry or PDK.
The engine bay presents in fine condition, a combination of stringent upkeep and fastidious ownership with no fewer than 12 service stamps and a folder packed full of invoices.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The timeless unmarked 18 inch Turbo wheels remain unmarked and clad in a set of Michelin Pilot Sport tyres with good tread level. The car is aligned perfectly as documented in the service history and suffers no unwanted braking characteristics, remaining true to line with excellent performance.
Early GT2s had the option of ceramic brakes, this example was supplied from new with steel brakes as confirmed by Porsche keeping replacement costs on the more reasonable side. Discs and pads all round remain in excellent condition.
This particular C16 car is in an excellent original and unmodified condition. It was UK supplied from new and first registered on 08 August 2001 by Evans Halshaw Porsche.
There are 12 service stamps in the booklet with the car serviced nearly every year of its life regardless of mileage covered. All books and manuals are present and correct in the original leather bound wallet with the spare key along with a folder full of invoices detailing much of the work undertaken.
