First showcased at the 2003 IAA Frankfurt Autoshow, the SLR was a product of joint collaboration between McLaren and Mercedes-Benz and became McLaren’s first modern day supercar since the illustrious F1. With a 0-62mph time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 208mph, the SLR was synonymous for its exceptional performance and handling with the luxury and comfort that made it the ultimate grand tourer of its time.
When the car was developed, German automotive manufacturer Mercedes-Benz owned 40 percent of the McLaren Group and the car was produced in conjunction between the two companies. SLR is an abbreviation for “Sport Leicht Rennsport” (Sport Light Racing), a homage to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR which served as the car’s inspiration. The car was offered in coupe, roadster and a limited edition speedster variants.

The timeless and iconic body of the SLR is finished in Crystal black metallic paint. It presents beautifully covering the fluid and elegant lines that make the SLR instantly recognisable.
The long bulged bonnet features a prominent nose with an integrated Mercedes star and runs back towards the windscreen where two silver grilles are fitted either side, these are dwarfed by the size of the side fitted vents and combined do their best to remove heat from the engine bay and cool the aggressively designed duel exit exhausts located just behind the front wheels. Add in the deep lower rear air diffuser (a reason for the side exit exhausts) and the styling package perfectly combines form and function. While now 13 years old it still holds its ground against the latest cars on the market today.
The interior cabin echos the impeccable styling cues of the exterior. It presents in near perfect condition finished in red leather, a great contrast against the black paint. The interior is awash with a selection of the finest finishes, with brushed sill entry trims proudly displaying its SLR designation to carbon backed leather bucket seats.
The Bose sound system and climate control along with a generous selection of standard equipment provide all the necessary luxury and tech.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The SLR engine is a hand built 5,439cc supercharged all-aluminium alloy V8, with a twin-screw supercharger producing 0.9 bar (13 psi) of boost.
McLaren took the original concept car designed by Mercedes and moved the engine 1 metre behind the front bumper, and around 50 centimetres behind the front axle to improve handling, to accommodate this they optimised the design of the centre firewall.
Power is fed to the rear wheels via an AMG five-speed automatic transmission with three manual modes. For durability Mercedes selected a five-speed transmission rather than their seven-speed gearbox which was more complex and used more parts.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The SLR sits on stunning model specific 19″ Turbine Alloys which all present in excellent order with no marks or scuffs to note. These are wrapped in matching Michelin tyres showing good tread.
The brake discs are carbon-ceramic and provide better stopping power and fade resistance than steel discs when operating under ideal working temperature.
This SLR was first delivered on 11/04/2005 as a UK car by Mercedes SLR Experience and service centre in Woking.
It has been serviced solely at the Mercedes SLR centres from new, a total of 7 times during its minimal mileage and will be freshly serviced on sale.
The car comes complete with two keys, book pack & original service book.
