The 650s is Mclarens second road car following on from the innovative MP4-12c.
The 650S shares the MP4-12C’s Carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer chassis and is powered by the same McLaren M838T 3.8-litre V8, twin-turbo engine, but now developing 641 bhp (478 kW; 650 PS) and 500 lb⋅ft (678 N⋅m) of torque, this is the same engine as used in the P1. Power is transmitted to the wheels through a seven-speed near instantaneous shift dual-clutch gearbox giving ferocious acceleration going on to a top speed of 207 mph.
With 25% new parts. new front bumper lights and nose makes a real difference, giving the 650S a much more distinctive McLaren identity than the 12C and similar to the flagship P1 at the time. Aerodynamically the new front also increases downforce by 40 per cent, the car now generating 100kg at 150mph.
Storm Grey, Mclaren Orange Brake Calipers, 19/20 Inch Light Weight Forged Diamond Cut Alloys, Carbon Fibre Interior Upgrade, Stealth Pack, Sports Exhaust System, Meridian Sound System, Alcantara Interior With McLaren Orange Piping & Stitching, Front Suspension Lifter, Soft Close Doors, Electric & Heated Memory Seats, Front & Rear Parking Sensors, Electric Steering Column, Branded Floor Mat Set, Car Cover.
Meticulously hand painted in an exquisitely rich shade of metallic Grey, named by McLaren as Storm Grey, this 650s exudes an imposing malevolence. The track focused, angular lines created with every bit of surgical-like precision makes for a truly spectacular visual impact. With front end PPF the body work remains in excellent condition.
The driver focused interior intensifies the thrill of driving the 650s, leaving no stone unturned in the quest to optimise performance without compromising driver engagement. From the liberal use of weight-saving Alcantara and carbon fibre throughout the cabin, to the luxuries of navigation, climate control, media ports, and a central touchscreen, the 650s is the perfect balance between drivability and performance.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
With the 12C’s 616bhp and 442lb ft outputs increased to 641bhp and 500lb ft, the claimed performance is mind-blowing: a 0-60 time of 2.9sec is impressive, but it’s the 0-100mph time which really sets out the McLaren’s stall – just 5.7sec, more than half a second quicker than the McLaren F1. The top speed is 207mph.
Most of the extra straight line performance over a standard 12C (which hits 60mph in 3.1sec) comes from the reworked engine, which has new pistons, cylinder heads and exhaust valves and revised cam timing.
Having just been serviced by McLaren Ascot the mechanics are in perfect working order.
