Following in the footsteps of the 348, the 355, the 360 and the F430, the 458 Challenge is the fifth model fielded by Ferrari for the one-make, Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli championship it organises for its sportier clients.

Compared to the 458 Italia, the direct injection 4499 cc V8 remains strictly in production tune, with an output of 570 hp at 9,000 rpm. Modifications have been made to the gear ratios and calibration of its dual-clutch F1 gearbox to produce higher torque at lower revs. The 458 Challenge is also equipped with the E-Diff electronic differential already employed on the road-going version, a first for Ferrari’s track-only cars.

Significant weight reductions were achieved both in the car’s interior and externally, particular on the thickness of the bodyshell and the materials used, making extensive use of Lexan.

It has a specific set-up over the road car with modifications made to its suspension which now includes solid steel racing bushings, stiffer springs, single-rate aluminium dampers, 19’’ centre-lock forged wheel rims, larger Pirelli slicks and a ride height that’s lower by 50 mm. New generation CCM2 Brembo brakes are also integrated with the evolved ABS debuted on the 599XX laboratory car.

Two track-specific calibrations were developed with logics and control strategies evolved from the F1 and GT racing worlds and fully integrated with the E-Diff to maximise performance both entering and exiting corners.

The ABS/EBD, E-Diff and F1-Trac calibrations are controlled via a steering wheel-mounted manettino, another first for a Ferrari Challenge-dedicated model. The driver has a choice of 3 settings: OFF position (traction control deactivated), position 1 and position 2. The latter two settings progressively increase the amount of control exerted by the aforementioned systems and can be selected to suit grip conditions. The 458 Challenge also has extraordinary lateral acceleration of 1.6 G when cornering, an essential factor in its superior performance.

Lexan Window, Driver and Passenger Race Bucket Seats in Red, Challenge Suspension Bushings, Springs and Single-rate Aluminium Dampers, 19’’ Centre-lock Forged Wheels, Pirelli slicks, Challenge Ride Height, CCM2 Brembo Brakes, Challenge Gear ratios and F1 Trac Calibration, Front and Rear Tow Eye, Bonnet Pins, Roll Cage, Air Jack System, Fire System, Alcantara Dash with Red Stitching, Alcantara Race Steering Wheel.

Finished in Bianco Avus this Ferrari Challenge car looks every bit the race car that it was built to be. Completely original and as manufactured by Italy’s finest Ferrari mechanics, it has been sparingly used as a track day toy rather than a competitive racer.

Pull the lightweight doors and be ready for some negotiation around the black roll cage and deep bucket seats. Once seated, driver aids are plentiful with Ferrari calibrating all systems to work in harmony on the race track This allows beginner or the experienced to get the best out of the car and their time spent on track whether competitive or for fun.

Fitted with the standard 458 Italia engine, reliability is nigh on guaranteed with the production engine, tested heavily in all climates and scenarios and designed to do tens of thousands of miles in high performance vehicles. It is a long way from a highly strung race engine that needs constant rebuilding.

Light weight forged centre lock Challenge wheels look incredible and fill the wheel arches perfectly with the Challenge cars lower ride height.

Brakes are courtesy of huge Brembo Carbon Ceramic discs and calipers.

Supplied new in 2013 by Ferrari Thailand to its one and only owner, this Challenge car has never been competitively raced.

Used only as a track day toy by its enthusiastic owner and with the addition of a matching passenger seat, their lucky friends or that of an instructor also get to share and enjoy the experience of one of Ferrari’s finest machines.

This car is NOT registered for road use but is available to view in our showroom. It is available NET of tax at £115k+vat.
