MODEL HISTORY

Based on the 360 Modena the Challenge Stradale was a limited production track day focused car that was used to homologate improvements to their GTC race car.

Focus at Ferrari was to improve the Modena’s track lapping performance and took inspiration from the then current 360 Challenge race car by concentrating on handling, braking, weight reduction and aerodynamics essentials for any out and out racing car.

Weighing in at just 20Kg more than the challenge race car and a huge 110Kg less than a standard Modena this resulted in a dramatic performance increase, add in ceramic brakes as standard taken directly from the Enzo, a 25bhp increase in power, aerodynamic improvements to the front bumper, side sills, rear engine lid and double rear end meant the Challenge Stradale lapped the Fiorano circuit 3.5 seconds faster than the Modena (the target for the Ferrari engineers was 2.5).

Straight line power and performance figure only differ marginally from the standard Modena (three tenth faster to 62 mph) on paper which makes it difficult to comprehend the staggering difference between the two cars and it’s only when the enthusiastic driver takes to the controls does the Challenge Stradale deliver through its feedback and responsiveness.

With a limited production run of sub 1300 cars worldwide combined with an incredible soundtrack and loyal fan following, the Challenge Stradale is an instant modern classic.

EXTERIOR

Presented in a rare and stunning shade of Nero black this Challenge Stradale is in near perfect condition. The flawless paintwork is protected by 3M paint protection film on the front bumper, nose and side sills ensuring that the car still wears its original factory coat of paint but without the stone chips commonly picked up by the low front end. The white, green and red stradale stripe accentuates the smooth, sleek lines of the Pininfarina-designed bodywork which leaves any keen passer by in no doubt that this is the homologation lightweight 360.

INTERIOR

The immaculate interior of this example is stripped-down and simple, with almost every part focused on saving weight. The alcantara inserts in the carbon-fibre racing seats and half leather/half alcantara dash remains clean and free from any wear, echoing the condition of the carbon-fibre surround on the instrument cluster, housing the central tachometer, coloured yellow for optimum legibility. The steering wheel is flanked by F1-style gearshifting ‘paddles’, with the right hand paddle lengthened to facilitate upshifts when accelerating out of bends.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The Challenge Stradale’s 90° V8 mid engine is longitudinally-mounted behind the cabin, and its red cover contrasts in striking fashion with the black of the bodywork. The engine is a work of art and provides the driver with an audible symphony of an exhaust note and the kind of performance that is unique to a race-ready car designed for road use. The F1 transmission produces lightning-quick changes through the 6-speed gearbox, incorporating two different configurations – ‘Sport’ and ‘Race’ – with corresponding damper and traction control settings.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The car’s 19-inch Challenge wheels are in superb condition, and come wrapped in their original specification Pirelli P Zero Corsa K1 racing tyres providing extreme levels of handling in the dry. The braking system itself features silver-coloured calipers, aluminium brake carriers and lightweight carbon ceramic discs from Italian manufacturer Brembo, a package which delivers superb deceleration rates and excellent handling.

HISTORY FILE

This left-hand-drive car was first registered in Switzerland then went early on in its life to the Netherlands. From here it was sourced and purchased by ourselves for import into the UK in 2015.

It was sold to the current fastidious owner shortly after import and has been serviced 5 times in the UK since then. The last 3 being HR Owen the Ferrari main dealer in London. Belts were changed in 2017 and the car has just received an annual service with further work completed in May this year at 33,295 KMs.

The owners manuals and service book is present along with all three alarm fobs and two sets of keys.
